When IRCC approves your permanent residence application and you are in Canada, you will receive an email to complete your virtual landing through the PR Confirmation Portal. This guide helps you respond correctly to activate your portal access.

This guide is for informational purposes. Always follow the specific instructions in your IRCC correspondence letter, as email addresses and content may vary by program.

What Is the PR Portal Email?

IRCC will send an email requesting information for IRCC to create your PR Confirmation Portal account. This portal allows you to complete your landing virtually without visiting an IRCC office.

Typical subject line: "IRCC – Permanent Residence Portal (PR Confirmation) / Portail de résidence permanente d'IRCC (confirmation de la RP) [Application Number]"

How to Respond

Step 1: Gather Required Information

For the principal applicant and each dependent (if applicable), collect:

  • Full legal name (as it appears on passport)

  • UCI (Unique Client Identifier) number

  • Email address (use one email for the entire family)

  • Eye colour

  • Height in centimetres

  • Original entry date to Canada (YYYY-MM-DD)

  • Date of last entry to Canada (YYYY-MM-DD)

  • Location of last entry (City, Province)

  • Current residential address (apt #, street #, street name, city, province and postal code)

  • Are you currently inside Canada (yes or no):

  • If you are not inside Canada, when is your expected return date (YYYY/MM/DD):

  • In which country are you currently located:

  • Expected return date (if currently outside Canada) or "Not Applicable" (if inside Canada)

Step 2: Reply to IRCC

Send your reply to the email address specified in your IRCC correspondence. Often it is the same email address that sends the original email.

  • If IRCC sent the email directly to you - Mostly it is just replying to that email

  • If YCI forwards you the email - Make sure you don't reply to YCI and reply to the specified IRCC email

Use the format directly from the email or letter, it would mostly look like:

Step 3: Send Your Reply

  • Double-check all information for accuracy

  • Ensure dates are in YYYY-MM-DD format

  • Use the same email address for all family members

  • Reply within the timeframe specified in your IRCC email (typically 7 days)

Important Tips

Use one email address for the whole family - All portal communications will go to this address

Be accurate with dates - Entry dates must match your passport stamps or CBSA records

Respond promptly - Delays may slow your landing process

Check spam folders - IRCC emails sometimes land in spam or junk folders

Keep confirmation - Save a copy of your reply for your records

If you want IRCC to create separate virtual landing PR portal for each dependent, provide different emails for each dependent and clearly mention that in your reply to IRCC.

What Happens Next

After submitting your information:

  1. IRCC will create your PR Portal account (typically within 1-3 weeks)

  2. You will receive portal login credentials via email

  3. You will upload required documents and photos through the portal

  4. IRCC will review your submission

  5. You will receive your eCOPR (electronic Confirmation of Permanent Residence)

  6. Your PR status becomes official

If you already have an existing PR portal on that email you shared with IRCC, they will create a case in the same PR portal.
